Region’s Longest Running Magazine Changes
Hands
BEND OR---After 29 years of publishing Cascades East
– Central Oregon’s premier recreation magazine
– owners Geoff and Vicki Hill have sold their publication
and the related recreation maps to Cascadia Magazine Company of
Bend. Cascadia is a joint venture between Cascade Publications,
Inc., owners Pamela Hulse Andrews and Jeff Martin, and Exciting
Writing, owned by Kyla Merwin Cheney.
Hulse Andrews will serve as the managing partner of the company
and Merwin Cheney as the magazine’s executive editor.
Jeff Martin, director of sales for Cascade Publications, will
assume that same role for Cascadia.
After three decades on the working side of the recreation industry, the Hills are looking forward to their new lifestyle. “Vicki and I are excited about the leisure lifestyle we will soon be enjoying,” said Sun Publishing founder Geoff Hill. “At the same time, we’re excited about the partners of Cascadia Magazine Company carrying on with Cascades East magazine and our popular recreation maps. We know both are in good hands and we’re anxious to see the changes they have in store.”
Cascades East is a high-end, quarterly publication dedicated to outdoor recreation, adventure and local events – as well as the history, art, people and places of the high desert. The first issue under the new ownership will be Fall 2005 and will hit the streets on September 20. Said Merwin Cheney, “We have some fun plans in store for the magazine, including a new look and a jazzy concept in writing and photography. We also plan to expand the distribution of the magazine so that residents and visitors will see it everywhere they go. I envision Cascades East as the magazine that people in Central Oregon will be reading – easily accessible, with stunning photography and sharp, engaging stories.”
Hulse Andrews, who is the founder of both Cascade Business News and Cascade Arts & Entertainment added, “It’s a great honor to be able to continue the legacy that Vicki and Geoff have so graciously built over nearly three decades with Cascades East. It seems a perfect fit with our other publications and we’re looking forward to making some energizing changes as we re-launch the adventure and recreation magazine this fall.”
Cascades East will be housed in the Cascade Publications Inc. headquarters in Bend, located at 404 NE Norton Avenue. Kyla@cascadebusnews.com.
